YouTube raises prices for Premium and Music subscriptions in the U.S.

YouTube is raising subscription prices for YouTube Premium and YouTube Music in the U.S., the Google-owned company confirmed to TechCrunch on Friday. The price increases will apply to both new and current subscribers. Current subscribers will receive an email from YouTube at least 30 days in advance notifying them of their updated subscription price, according to the Google-owned company.

The price adjustments affect multiple tiers, including individual and family plans for both Premium and Music, as well as the Premium Lite tier. The updated monthly pricing structure in the U.S. is as follows:

  • YouTube Premium Individual: Increasing from $13.99 to $15.99
  • YouTube Premium Family: Increasing from $22.99 to $26.99
  • YouTube Premium Lite: Increasing from $7.99 to $8.99
  • YouTube Music Individual: Increasing from $10.99 to $11.99
  • YouTube Music Family: Increasing from $16.99 to $18.99

A YouTube spokesperson justified the price increases as a step to support creators and maintain features. “We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the US for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” the spokesperson said. According to the spokesperson, the change allows the platform to maintain features that members value most, including ad-free viewing, background play, and a library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music. The spokesperson added that the company continues to offer several plans to ensure subscribers can choose the option that works best for them.

The price hikes come as YouTube reported growth in its subscriber base. In March 2025, YouTube reported that it had 125 million subscribers across YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, which represents an increase from the 100 million subscribers the company reported in 2024. The previous YouTube Premium price increase occurred in July 2023.

These price hikes align with a broader industry trend of rising costs across streaming platforms over the past year. Competitors Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, HBO Max, Peacock, Disney+, and Hulu have all implemented similar price increases during this period.

Why it matters

The price hikes follow a series of similar moves from other streaming services over the past year, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, HBO Max, Peacock, and Disney+/Hulu.
