Six media and entertainment startups from TechCrunch’s Battlefield
TechCrunch has spotlighted six media and entertainment startups from its annual Startup Battlefield competition, which selects top contenders from thousands of applicants.
Every year, TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield—the technology publication’s startup pitch competition—draws thousands of applicants. From this large pool of applications, the organizers whittle the entries down to select 200 top contenders. Out of these, the top 20 startups compete on the big stage to become the winner, taking home the Startup Battlefield Cup and a cash prize of $100,000. The remaining 180 startups, which the organizers noted also impressed them in their respective categories, participate in their own dedicated pitch competition. Among this group of selectees, six startups in the media and entertainment sector stood out for their distinct value propositions in content management, fan engagement, and creation tools.
The six selected startups from the competition include:
- Alltroo: This startup helps celebrities manage their charity giveaways and fan engagement awards. The platform manages the entire sweepstakes process involving a celebrity—whether it is an event with the celebrity or a donation to a charity giveaway—handling everything from promotion and entry management to selecting the final winner.
- METAPYXL: This platform protects digital media with content management tools. It provides artists and content creators with dedicated tools for watermarking, tracking usage, setting licensing terms, and viewing analytics.
- Nebula: A music gallery platform where fans can support their favorite artists and earn royalties as they help them succeed. Fans buy tokens in music tracks at a price set by the artists, allowing them to earn royalties as those tracks are streamed.
- Oriane: This company offers a search tool that can find brands and trends in videos using natural language search. Because searching for videos to track brand mentions or content creators remains difficult, the platform provides AI-powered text, image, and video clip searching.
- Othelia Technologies: An AI-powered storytelling platform designed to help human creators. The platform is built to map a story’s structure, find connections, and offer overviews so storytellers can build, edit, and work with complex worlds.
- Transitional Forms: This startup runs live simulations from prompts. Its patent-pending framework lets anyone create, remix, and export instant video simulations directly from a mobile device. The startup states that it is building “SocialTV,” which it envisions as the future of entertainment.
