Google is integrating its Gemini artificial intelligence model across its Google Workspace productivity suite, embedding the technology directly into core applications such as Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Meet. The rollout represents a broad effort to inject automation into daily business workflows, shifting these applications into active assistants capable of handling routine administrative tasks. This widespread deployment aims to make AI tools a standard part of the modern professional environment.

The integration introduces specific functional capabilities designed to streamline document management, communication, and content creation. Rather than requiring users to navigate multiple external tools, these features operate natively within the existing Workspace interface, allowing professionals to manage information faster. The specific capabilities across the suite include:

  • Google Docs: The assistant provides automatic summarization of long documents and drafts new content. Certain Gemini features within Google Docs are currently still in beta.
  • Gmail: Gemini assists with managing inboxes by filtering messages, summarizing email threads, and drafting contextual replies.
  • Google Sheets: The integration helps users organize data, generate charts, and populate tables, streamlining spreadsheet creation.
  • Google Slides: The tool assists with formatting and presentation creation. For example, users can prompt the system to generate a five-slide deck. Additionally, Slides incorporates Nano Banana, Google’s image-editing model, to allow image manipulation.
  • Google Drive: Users can leverage Gemini to search files, summarize plans, and draft updates directly from their document libraries.
  • Google Meet: The AI handles automatic note-taking during video calls, capturing key decisions and action items, and provides quick summaries for users who join meetings late.
  • Google Calendar: Gemini assists with scheduling, event creation, and rescheduling. It suggests optimal times based on availability and can connect to Gmail to detect open slots.
  • Google Chat: The tool summarizes spaces, highlights key decisions, and drafts replies. It can also answer questions about shared documents without requiring users to open them.
  • Google Vids: The application integrates Gemini Veo 3, an image-to-video model, to assist with video generation.
  • Google Forms: The integration helps users generate complete forms from descriptions, refine questions, and summarize incoming results to highlight trends directly within the application.

The updates target common operational tasks, such as summarizing lengthy email threads, organizing raw data, and automating meeting notes. These features operate directly within the applications where professional work occurs.

Why it matters

This integration marks a shift toward AI-native productivity, where tools like summarization and automated drafting become standard features for managing daily workflows.
