TechCrunch opens nominations for Startup Battlefield 200

TechCrunch has officially opened nominations for the Startup Battlefield 200, its annual startup pitch competition. The event brings together 200 early-stage startups to compete on a global stage. Selected participants will have the opportunity to pitch their businesses to world-class venture capital judges, with the winning startup receiving $100,000 in equity-free funding—which is defined as investment money that does not require giving up company ownership.

The competition has a history of launching prominent tech companies. Over 1,700 alumni startups have previously participated in the program, including notable names such as Dropbox, Discord, Fitbit, Trello, and CloudFlare. Startups selected for the cohort receive several specific perks designed to increase their visibility within the technology ecosystem:

  • A free exhibit table for all three days of the Disrupt conference
  • 4 complimentary Disrupt passes
  • Startup branding and a listing in the Disrupt event app
  • Access to the event press list and lead-generation opportunities
  • Access to exclusive founder masterclasses
  • The opportunity to pitch live on the Disrupt Stage
  • Direct feedback from venture capitalists
  • A shot at the $100,000 equity-free prize money

To qualify for the competition, TechCrunch is looking for early-stage founders who have developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)—defined as a basic version of a product with just enough features to be usable by early customers—and possess a clear long-term vision. The competition is open to startups that are bootstrapped, pre-seed, or seed-funded. Additionally, Series A startups operating in capital-intensive industries may also qualify to apply. Nominations for the competition close on May 27th at 11:59 PM PT.

Why it matters

The competition serves as a significant launchpad for early-stage startups, providing not just capital but also high-level visibility to investors and the broader tech ecosystem.
