Spotify and beverage brand Liquid Death have released a limited-edition Bluetooth speaker shaped like a cremation urn. Named the “Eternal Playlist Urn,” the device is priced at $495, with only 150 available for purchase in the U.S. The product, which measures 7-inch-by-11.4-inch, features a wireless speaker built into its lid. According to Spotify, the device offers the world’s first ever music-streaming urn, representing a product collaboration that might be the wildest of the year.

This release marks Spotify’s second hardware collaboration with another brand. In 2022, the music-streaming company partnered with furniture retailer Ikea on a portable lamp speaker. Beyond these brand partnerships, Spotify has previously experimented with hardware, including its now-discontinued “Car Thing” in-car entertainment device.

The collaboration aligns with Liquid Death’s history of extreme marketing campaigns. The beverage brand is known for its irreverent promotions, which previously included a Yeti Casket-shaped cooler. That item attracted over 800 bidders and eventually sold for $68,200. While some may find the product’s theme morbid, the brand continues to lean into dark comedy to capture consumer attention.

Spotify has framed the product as a way to bring music to the afterlife, suggesting that even the dearly departed can continue listening to their favorite playlists. In a blog post, the company stated: “Life needs music. So does the afterlife. That’s why Spotify has partnered with Liquid Death to create the Eternal Playlist Urn, the world’s first wireless speaker designed to bring your music somewhere it’s never been before”

Why it matters

Spotify is continuing its strategy of brand-led hardware collaborations to drive engagement, moving beyond its core streaming service into niche, limited-edition physical products.
