Spanish startup Multiverse launches HyperNova 60B model
Spanish startup Multiverse Computing has released HyperNova 60B, a free, compressed AI model that is roughly half the size of OpenAI's gpt-oss-120b.
Multiverse Computing, an AI startup based in Spain, has released a free compressed AI model called HyperNova 60B. The model, which has a parameter count of 60B and a size of 32GB, is roughly half the size of OpenAI’s gpt-oss-120b. According to Multiverse, its models are smaller but nearly as potent and accurate as the models they derive from. The company released this update to offer lower memory usage and lower latency, framing the release as part of its effort to “deliver sovereign solutions across the AI stack”—meaning AI solutions developed within a specific region to ensure independence. The updated model also supports tool calling and agentic coding, which refers to AI systems capable of autonomous coding tasks. The company plans to release more open-source compressed models in 2026.
The launch positions the Spanish company against competitors like French firm Mistral AI, whose model Mistral Large 3 is among those Multiverse claims to have outperformed. Despite the technological rivalry, both European companies share a similar trajectory of expanding beyond their home countries. Multiverse has established offices in the United States, Canada, and across Europe, serving enterprise customers such as Iberdrola, Bosch, and the Bank of Canada.
The region could very soon count its first unicorn, or “soonicorn” (a startup expected to become a unicorn soon). Multiverse is rumored to be raising a fresh €500 million funding round at a valuation of more than €1.5 billion. While the company confirmed active discussions with potential investors, it declined to comment on reports that its annual recurring revenue reached €100 million in January. These regional ties helped Multiverse secure a collaboration with the regional government of Aragón, in northeastern Spain. Additionally, the Spanish Agency for Technological Transformation (SETT) participated in the startup’s $215 million Series B funding last year.
To put these financial figures in perspective:
- Multiverse Computing ARR: €100 million in January (reported, though the company declined to comment).
- Multiverse Series B Funding: $215 million raised last year, with participation from the Spanish Agency for Technological Transformation (SETT).
- Mistral AI ARR: Over €400 million.
- OpenAI ARR: $20 billion.
- Rumored Multiverse Funding: €500 million at a valuation of more than €1.5 billion.
Why it matters
Multiverse Computing is addressing the issue of large LLMs by releasing compressed models that aim to close the gap between frontier model capabilities and what companies can afford to deploy.
