Flutterwave hits $3.2B valuation in Series E round
Flutterwave has raised a Series E round at a $3.2B valuation, with Ripple joining as an investor to help expand financial services across Africa.
African payments infrastructure company Flutterwave announced on Tuesday that it has secured a Series E funding round—which represents a late-stage funding round—valuing the company at $3.2B. This newly announced round notably includes an equity investment from Ripple, which is a payments blockchain company. Although Flutterwave did not reveal the exact financial size of this specific round, the company stated that it has now raised more than $500 million in total funding to date. The company plans to leverage this capital to scale its infrastructure across its extensive geographic footprint, as Flutterwave currently operates in 35 countries across the African continent. The capital will support the company’s ongoing efforts to expand financial services.
The equity stake from Ripple is part of a strategic plan to help both companies expand financial services on the African continent. Cross-border payments, which represent the primary industry in which Flutterwave operates, remain highly challenging across Africa. This difficulty is driven by several systemic factors, including fragmented banking systems, strict foreign exchange policies, and high currency volatility. In addition, transactions are frequently routed through European cities such as London, a process that introduces significant operational delays. To bypass these traditional banking bottlenecks, Flutterwave has focused on API unification, which refers to technology to help Africa operate as one market.
As part of this strategy, the fintech acquired the African banking startup Mono earlier this year to adopt its API technology. This acquisition follows Flutterwave’s previous initiatives in the digital asset space; in October 2025, the company partnered with Polygon Labs to introduce stablecoin solutions—cryptocurrency designed to have a stable value—for businesses. According to the companies, these stablecoin solutions allow transactions to bypass traditional banking systems to provide a more stable, faster, and cheaper way to send money. Under the terms of the new deal, Ripple will provide Flutterwave with the infrastructure required to expand its digital asset offerings. The partnership also supports Ripple’s own strategic goals, as the blockchain company is actively looking to expand its corporate presence in Africa, where Flutterwave already operates in 35 countries.
Why it matters
The partnership between Flutterwave and Ripple represents a strategic effort to solve the fragmentation of African banking systems by integrating blockchain-based infrastructure into existing payment rails.
