Mivo Scrolling aims to curb doomscrolling with mindful pauses
Mivo Scrolling has launched a free, no-shaming screen time management app that uses reflection prompts instead of strict blocking to help users manage their digital habits.
Mivo Scrolling, a new mindful screen time management app, launched last month on the App Store. The application introduces a “no-shaming” approach to managing digital habits, positioning itself within the “slow tech movement”—a broader effort focused on rethinking how people interact with technology. Rather than relying on strict, punitive blocks that lock users out of their devices, the app focuses on building user awareness around “doomscrolling,” which refers to the habit of spending excessive amounts of time scrolling through social media. The app is available for free on the App Store.
To help users manage their screen time, the app allows individuals to set customizable time limits for specific platforms. For example, users can schedule two daily scroll sessions, which are allocated within one-hour windows. To maintain awareness during these sessions, the app prompts users with regular reflection pauses every two, three, or five minutes. These pauses are designed to encourage intentional usage by asking users to consider why they are scrolling, rather than automatically continuing. Unlike traditional screen time tools that enforce hard limits, this approach allows users to decide whether they want to continue scrolling, shifting the focus toward self-awareness.
The app is designed to intervene at the moment of action rather than after a habit has already commenced. “Most screen time tools try to restrict people after the habit is already happening. Mivo adds a small reflection moment right when someone opens a social app, so they can pause and ask why they’re opening it before falling into an automatic scroll,” said Pranshu Raithatha, creator of Mivo Scrolling. By prompting users to reflect on whether their time is well spent, the tool aims to foster a healthier relationship with mobile devices.
Why it matters
Mivo Scrolling represents a shift in the slow tech movement, moving away from punitive app-blocking toward user-led behavioral change to combat doomscrolling. By focusing on reflection rather than restriction, the application highlights a growing demand for digital wellness tools that prioritize user autonomy over forced lockouts.
