TechCrunch will open applications in the middle of this month for its global Startup Battlefield 200, a competition offering selected startups a $100,000 equity-free prize.

Startup Battlefield 200 opens applications for 2026 cohort

TechCrunch, the organizer of the competition, is preparing to launch the 2026 cohort of its Startup Battlefield 200. The initiative is a highly selective global startup launch program designed to prepare early-stage startups for visibility, investment, and scale. The competition is held at TechCrunch Disrupt, a San Francisco-based event. For the upcoming cohort, the program will select 200 startups to participate, hand-selecting them to gain exposure, credibility, and opportunities to scale. Early-stage startups from around the world are joining the mailing list to be notified when applications open. Applications for the program will open in the middle of this month, and the application window is scheduled to close in mid-June.

The winner of the competition receives a $100,000 equity-free prize. This equity-free prize is structured as grant money that does not require the selected company to give up any ownership. Startups selected for the cohort receive several benefits, including free exhibit space at TechCrunch Disrupt for all three days, exclusive access to masterclasses, and curated networking. They also receive direct exposure to press and investors, a chance to pitch live at Disrupt, and a shot at the main Disrupt Stage to compete for the equity-free prize and the Disrupt Cup.

The program has a track record of supporting early-stage companies. To date, the Startup Battlefield alumni network consists of 1,700+ companies. These alumni companies have collectively raised over $32 billion after participating in the program. Notable alumni from previous cohorts include companies such as Dropbox, Discord, Cloudflare, Trello, and Mint, many of which have gone on to significant exits and growth.

Following the close of applications, selected startups will be notified of their acceptance around September 1. The virtual preparation program is scheduled to begin on September 1. This virtual program is designed to prepare the selected founders for the competition, helping them refine their story, sharpen their pitch, and get ready for the pitch of a lifetime before they present on the TechCrunch Disrupt stage in San Francisco. The 2026 cohort will bring together early-stage startups building across sectors such as AI, climate, health, fintech, and beyond.

Why it matters

The program serves as a high-visibility platform for early-stage companies to secure funding and industry recognition, culminating in a $100,000 equity-free prize.
