Kodiak AI partners with Bosch to scale autonomous trucking hardware

Kodiak AI is partnering with Bosch to develop autonomous trucking hardware, aiming to scale production for its self-driving big rigs, though production timelines remain unclear.

On Monday, self-driving truck developer Kodiak AI announced a partnership with global automotive supplier Bosch to develop a system of hardware and software for autonomous big rigs. The collaboration, which was announced at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, could help Kodiak bring its self-driving technology to more trucks, faster. Under the agreement, Bosch will supply hardware components, including sensors and vehicle actuation components such as steering technologies. The partnership focuses on building redundant systems—which are backup systems for safety in braking, steering, sensors, and computers—designed to turn semi trucks into driverless vehicles regardless of the manufacturer.

The partnership comes as Kodiak continues to expand its real-world operations. In January 2025, the company began making driverless deliveries for Atlas Energy Solutions in the Permian Basin of West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Since then, Kodiak has delivered at least eight self-driving trucks to Atlas Energy as part of an initial 100-truck order. To deliver these vehicles, Kodiak has been working with Roush Industries, which acted as the upfitter—a company that modifies vehicles with specialized equipment—for the driverless trucks. This operational scaling preceded Kodiak going public in September 2025 via a merger with Ares Acquisition Corporation II, a special-purpose acquisition company.

The new hardware systems developed with Bosch can be integrated directly on the vehicle production line or added later by a third-party upfitter. Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak, stated: “We believe collaborating with Bosch will allow us to scale autonomous driving hardware with the modularity, serviceability, and system-level integration needed for commercial success for both upfit and factory-line integration.”

Paul Thomas, president of Bosch in North America and the company’s Bosch Mobility Americas division, noted that by supplying production-grade hardware, Bosch is enabling the next generation of autonomous trucking alongside Kodiak. Thomas added that because Kodiak has already deployed trucks with no humans on board in commercial operation, the cooperation gives Bosch a valuable opportunity to deepen its understanding of real-world autonomous vehicle requirements and to further enhance its offerings for the broader autonomous mobility ecosystem. However, it remains unclear when these new systems might go into production, as neither company provided a specific timeline.
