On Monday, venture capital investor Katie Haun announced in a press release that her firm has raised $1 billion across new venture funds. The capital is dedicated to continuing the firm’s thesis of backing startups in the crypto and blockchain sectors. Haun, who previously worked as an investor at Andreessen Horowitz, established her own venture firm to focus on these specific technology sectors. The announcement of the new funds marks a capital raise of $1 billion for the firm as it continues to back startups in the crypto and blockchain space.

According to reporting from Bloomberg, the $1 billion in capital will be spread across startups at both early and later stages. The firm hopes to deploy this capital globally over the next two to three years. Within the crypto and blockchain space, the firm will use the capital to back startups focused on three specific areas:

  • Alternative assets, such as gold and other commodities.
  • The agentic economy, which refers to economic activity driven by autonomous artificial intelligence agents.
  • Financial services.

The firm’s investment focus on alternative assets includes commodities like gold, while its focus on the agentic economy targets economic activity driven by autonomous artificial intelligence agents. The third focus area, financial services, will also receive backing from the new funds.

Haun previously worked at Andreessen Horowitz, a venture capital firm often referred to as a16z. She left Andreessen Horowitz in late 2021 and launched her own venture firm shortly after, in 2022. Separately from this latest capital raise, the firm handles more than $2 billion in assets under management, according to estimates from the financial data and software company PitchBook. The firm’s portfolio includes Ellipsis Labs, a crypto finance company, and Erebor Bank, a portfolio company founded by Palmer Luckey. These investments represent the firm’s active backing of startups in the crypto and blockchain space.

Why it matters

The firm’s $1 billion raise signals continued institutional appetite for crypto and blockchain, with a specific pivot toward the agentic economy and financial services.
