Jeff Bezos is reportedly seeking $100 billion for a new fund to acquire and modernize industrial companies using AI models from his startup, Project Prometheus.
Jeff Bezos is reportedly seeking $100 billion for a new investment fund designed to acquire and modernize industrial companies. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the proposed fund will be used to buy up businesses operating within industrial sectors, with the ultimate goal of modernizing and automating them using artificial intelligence. This capital campaign is directly connected to Project Prometheus, an AI startup co-founded by Bezos. The fund’s objective is to acquire these industrial companies so they can ultimately deploy the AI models developed by the startup.
Project Prometheus, which launched with $6.2 billion in funding, is focused on developing AI models to improve manufacturing and engineering processes. The startup targets applications in sectors such as aerospace and chipmaking. Bezos serves as the co-founder and co-CEO of Project Prometheus, sharing leadership with Vik Bajaj, a former Google executive. While Bezos’ involvement with the AI startup was originally reported in November, this new fund represents a direct extension of the company’s mission. Under the proposed strategy, the fund would acquire industrial companies that will ultimately deploy the AI models developed by Project Prometheus.
To secure the $100 billion in capital required for the new fund, Bezos has reportedly traveled to Singapore and the Middle East to meet with investors. The Wall Street Journal reported that the acquisition plan focuses on purchasing companies in industrial areas, specifically targeting aerospace, chipmaking, and defense. By acquiring these firms, the fund aims to implement Project Prometheus’s technology directly into their existing operations. Amazon was contacted for comment regarding the fundraising efforts and the proposed industrial fund.
Why it matters
The proposed fund represents a significant capital push to apply specialized AI models to critical industrial sectors, potentially accelerating modernization in areas like aerospace and defense.
