Google completes $32 billion acquisition of Wiz
Google has acquired cybersecurity startup Wiz for $32 billion in cash, marking its largest acquisition following regulatory approval in the U.S. and European Union.
Google has finalized its $32 billion cash acquisition of Wiz, marking the largest acquisition in the company’s history. The transaction closes a full year after the companies first announced the deal. Wiz, an Israeli cybersecurity startup, provides a security platform that protects cloud environments by preventing and responding to cybersecurity threats. While Wiz will join the Google Cloud division, the company stated that it will maintain its brand and commitment to securing customers across all cloud environments, including Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud.
The acquisition is designed to strengthen Google Cloud’s enterprise offering by integrating Wiz’s multi-cloud platform—a strategy of using multiple cloud computing services. This integration helps organizations manage threats across diverse environments. Large organizations increasingly work across different clouds, and Google is positioning itself to secure these environments. In a statement, Google explained: “This acquisition is an investment by Google Cloud to improve cloud security and enable organizations to build fast and securely across any cloud or AI platform,”.
Together, the two companies will work on delivering a unified security platform to help organizations deal with threats faster. This has become an essential task as the rise of vibe coding—slang for AI-assisted coding—has resulted in an increase in security vulnerabilities, and prompt-based attacks become more commonplace. Wiz has leaned into its own use of AI to improve threat detection and investigation at every layer of a cloud’s environment, from code and infrastructure to runtime, which refers to the period of time during which a program is executing.
The finalization of the deal follows a long negotiation process. Google initially approached Wiz in 2024 with an offer to buy the startup for $23 billion. Wiz walked away from that offer, and its CEO Assaf Rappaport said, at the time, that he felt the business could grow to be a lot bigger than that. The companies revived acquisition talks in the first few months of 2025, and Google announced it was buying Wiz for $32 billion in March 2025.
The transaction also follows strong financial performance by the startup. According to a source familiar with the matter, Wiz crossed $1 billion in ARR—or Annual Recurring Revenue—in 2025.
To complete the transaction, the companies had to navigate regulatory hurdles. The deal received approval from U.S. regulators in November 2025 and European Union regulators in February 2026, following antitrust probes.
Why it matters
Google is betting that integrating Wiz’s multi-cloud security platform will help it capture more enterprise market share as large organizations increasingly operate across diverse cloud environments like AWS and Azure.
