Applications open for the 2026 Startup Battlefield

Startup Battlefield, TechCrunch’s startup competition and accelerator program, has established itself as a launchpad for early-stage technology companies. Since the program’s inception, more than 1,700 companies have competed on its stage. Collectively, these alumni have raised $32 billion in total funding and generated over 250 exits. The platform has historically served as an early testing ground for startups that went on to achieve scale, including Cloudflare, which presented its edge networking technology, and Discord, alongside other alumni such as Mint, Trello, and N26.

The long-term impact of the program is reflected in the subsequent growth and consolidation of its alumni network. A notable example of this ecosystem density occurred in 2021, when the file-sharing and collaboration platform Dropbox acquired fellow Startup Battlefield alumnus DocSend. Other alumni have achieved exits through external acquisitions. For instance, Forethought, an artificial intelligence startup co-founded by Deon Nicholas, won the competition in 2018 with a pitch focused on transforming customer support. The company was recently acquired by customer service software provider Zendesk.

Recent cohorts of the competition highlight a broad range of technical focus areas, from hardware to logistics. Glīd, led by founder Kevin Damoa, secured the championship title as the Startup Battlefield 2025 champion. Damoa, who entered the startup space with a background in military logistics, utilized that experience to build under pressure with constrained resources. The year prior, geCKo Materials, founded by Capella Kerst, finished as the Startup Battlefield 2024 runner-up. Spun out of Stanford, geCKo Materials developed a gecko-inspired adhesive technology designed for extreme environments, with applications ranging from manufacturing floors to the International Space Station.

For early-stage founders seeking to join this alumni network, applications for the upcoming cycle are currently open. Due to high demand from applicants, the organizers have set the Startup Battlefield 2026 application deadline for June 8. The competition continues to serve as a key milestone for founders looking to transition from initial pitches to securing institutional term sheets and establishing product-market fit.

Why it matters

The scale of Startup Battlefield’s alumni network underscores the program’s role as a primary pipeline for venture-backed technology companies. For founders, the platform represents a structured pathway to secure early visibility, institutional capital, and eventual liquidity events.
