Atlassian adds visual AI and third-party agents to Confluence
Atlassian launched the Remix visual AI tool and three third-party agents in Confluence, continuing the industry trend of embedding AI directly into existing enterprise software workflows.
Atlassian announced new AI tools and agents on Wednesday, focusing on its content collaboration software, Confluence. The rollout includes the visual AI tool Remix, which is currently in open beta. Remix allows enterprises to turn data and information stored in Confluence into assets including charts and graphics. The tool will recommend visual formats and create these assets directly within the platform, meaning users do not need to open another application.
Additionally, Atlassian introduced three new third-party agents that run within Confluence. These agents connect using model context protocols (MCPs)—a technical standard for connecting AI agents to data. The three agents include:
- Lovable: An agent that connects users to the vibe-coding platform Lovable—a colloquial term for AI-assisted coding—to turn product ideas and data into working prototypes.
- Replit: An agent that connects to the app builder software Replit, allowing users to convert technical documents into starter apps.
- Gamma: An agent that works with the AI presentation builder Gamma to build slides and other presentation materials.
This launch represents a broader industry shift toward embedding AI tools and agents directly into existing workflows, rather than introducing standalone software platforms. In February, Atlassian added AI agents to its product management software, Jira. Other enterprise technology companies are pursuing similar strategies. For example, Salesforce launched its AI agent management platform, Agentforce, in 2024, but has since released many of its AI innovations through existing software, such as upgrading its Slack messaging service chatbot into an AI agent. Similarly, OpenAI is leaning into this movement through its Frontier Alliances initiative, partnering with four major consultant firms to embed its technology directly into clients’ existing tech stacks and workflows, rather than solely selling ChatGPT Enterprise subscriptions.
Atlassian leadership frames these integrations as a way to streamline operations and reduce friction for teams. Sanchan Saxena, senior vice president of teamwork collaboration at Atlassian, noted that the updates allow teams to do more than manage documents. “With Remix and agents in Confluence, a single page becomes the starting point for whatever comes next: a clear story for leaders, a prototype for builders, or a walkthrough for customers, all from the same source of truth,” Saxena wrote in a blog post.
Why it matters
By integrating AI agents directly into Confluence, Atlassian is positioning its collaboration platform as a central source of truth for both content creation and application prototyping, reducing the need for users to switch between disparate tools.
