Apple brings ads to Maps and consolidates business tools
Apple is introducing auction-based ads to Apple Maps in the U.S. and Canada while consolidating its enterprise tools into a new, global "Apple Business" suite.
On Tuesday, Apple announced that it will allow advertisers to target customers on Apple Maps, starting in the U.S. and Canada later this summer. Alongside this advertising expansion, the company is rebranding and consolidating its enterprise services into a unified suite called Apple Business. This rebranded suite will be offered in 200 countries and regions as of April 14, 2026.
The upcoming ad offering on Apple Maps will use an auction-based pricing system, according to Apple. The system will limit search results to show only one ad per query, which will be marked with a blue halo around the map pin and labeled as an ad in the Suggested Places list. Apple stated that these ads will protect users’ privacy, as data regarding user interactions with the ads is not associated with their Apple accounts, and personal data remains on the device rather than being shared with third parties.
The unified Apple Business suite consolidates several of Apple’s previous business tools, including Apple Business Connect, Apple Business Essentials, and Apple Business Manager. The consolidated service introduces new productivity features, such as email and calendar services under the business’ domain, alongside MDM (Mobile Device Management) tools—software used for distributing applications to employees. For smaller operations, Apple is providing “Blueprints,” which are preconfigured settings designed to help set up employee devices without advanced technical expertise. Larger companies will be able to manage their app deployments via an API.
The pricing and storage tiers for the new Apple Business suite include:
- Free Tier: Includes free MDM tools for businesses of all sizes, and employee accounts that come with 5 GB of free iCloud storage.
- Upgraded Storage Plans: For U.S. businesses, upgraded plans start at $0.99 per user per month, offering up to 2 TB of storage per user.
- AppleCare+ for Business: Added support plans start at $6.99/month, priced either per user or per device.
This expansion into Maps advertising represents a significant revenue opportunity for Apple. By leveraging its first-party application ecosystem, the new offering could add billions to Apple’s bottom line as its advertising business continues to grow globally.
Why it matters
Bringing ads to a flagship application offers Apple a significant new revenue stream without disrupting the user experience, while the unified business suite simplifies its enterprise offering for a global market.
