On Thursday, Anthropic introduced Reflect, a built-in dashboard that lets Claude users track and visualize their AI usage habits. The feature is available in beta for Free, Pro, and Max users who have memory enabled, and it surfaces patterns in what topics people discuss with Claude and what kinds of tasks they turn to it for.

Beyond the surface-level analytics, Reflect is designed to shape how users think about AI itself by framing Claude as both a productivity tool and part of an everyday workflow. To that end, the feature offers tools to set quiet hours or schedule nudges to take a break from AI, and it periodically prompts users with questions meant to encourage critical thinking about their usage — asking, for instance, “What’s one thing you want to keep doing yourself, even if Claude could do it faster?” Anthropic frames these prompts and break tools as a nod to the potentially addictive nature of working with AI chatbots.

The approach echoes a much older idea. In 2012, Google promoted Gmail Meter, a utility that analyzed inbox traffic — visualizing email volume, category breakdowns, and archive size. That tool, too, doubled as a way of showing users how central the product had become to their digital lives, well before it became a vehicle for behavioral nudging.

By giving users a mirror of their own habits, Anthropic is integrating Claude more deeply into daily workflows — a dynamic that helps retain users and discourage them from switching to competitors’ AI tools. Anthropic notes that more sensitive conversations may show up in Reflect, but only at a high level, and any data connected to a health integration tool is completely excluded from the insights shown to users. Anthropic also says none of the data in Reflect is used for other purposes. The company adds that Reflect will eventually expand to show how much time users spend on Claude, building out the dashboard beyond its current topic- and task-tracking scope.

Why it matters

The Reflect feature helps Anthropic retain users and discourage them from switching to competitors’ AI tools by more deeply integrating their daily workflows with Claude.
