AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su kicked off her keynote at the annual CES conference on Monday with a message about delivering AI for everyone. As part of that promise, the semiconductor company announced a new line of AI processors, the Ryzen AI 400 Series, for AI PCs—computers with integrated AI processing capabilities. The company thinks AI-powered personal computers are the way of the future. The new processors represent an upgrade to the Ryzen AI 300 Series processor that was announced in 2024. AMD, which started producing the Ryzen processor series in 2017, claims the Ryzen AI 400 Series allows for:

  • 1.3x faster multitasking than its competitors
  • 1.7x times faster at content creation

The new chips feature 12 CPU Cores, which are individual processing units inside a core processor, and 24 threads, which are independent streams of instruction.

Alongside the general-use chips, AMD announced the release of the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, which is the latest version of its gaming-focused processor. Rahul Tikoo, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s client business, stated during a press briefing that AMD has expanded to over 250 AI PC platforms. Tikoo added that this platform count represents a growth of 2x over the last year.

Tikoo emphasized that AI is reshaping everyday computing regardless of who a user is or how they use technology on a daily basis, noting that users have thousands of interactions with their PCs every day. He explained that AI is able to understand, learn context, bring automation, provide deep reasoning, and provide personal customization to every individual. “In the years ahead, AI is going to be a multi-layered fabric that gets woven into every level of computing at the personal layer,” Tikoo said. He added that AI PCs and devices will transform how users work, play, create, and connect with each other.

PCs that include either the Ryzen AI 400 Series processor or the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor will become available in the first quarter of 2026. AMD also announced the latest version of its Redstone ray tracing technology—a technology that simulates the physical behavior of light for graphics—which allows for better video game graphics without a performance or speed lag.

Why it matters

AMD is doubling down on its AI PC strategy, leveraging performance improvements in multitasking and content creation to support an ecosystem of over 250 AI PC platforms.
