While the San Francisco Police are investigating the crime, the digital trail left by the autonomous vehicle did not lead to the identification of the suspect.

Although Waymo captures and stores ride footage, the duration for which Waymo stores ride footage is not known. In this instance, the ride footage was already unavailable by the time the search warrant was filed in April, months after the theft occurred. Furthermore, the report noted that police could not identify the burglar via exterior camera footage because it was blurred for privacy.
The details of the theft itself were captured on the yoga studio’s own security systems. According to security footage from Hot 8 Yoga, the suspect rode in a Waymo vehicle to the studio, entered the building to steal the clothing, and then got back into the same vehicle to flee. To trace the suspect, the San Francisco Police filed a search warrant to obtain Waymo’s account data. However, the report indicates that the Waymo account data apparently did not assist in identifying the suspect, leaving investigators without a clear lead.
